How it Works- Students
The Student Enrollment Process
- Contact us to set an appointment to meet at one of our library branches
- Program Manager (434-592-9534)
- Program Coordinator (434-332-9561) (se habla Espanol)
- ***If you are unable to communicate in English, translation services are available during enrollment.
- Meet with a member of our leadership team in person at one of our 4 library branches or virtually via zoom or Facetime.
- During the enrollment meeting:
- We will discuss your background and learning goals to help us get to know how we can help you best.
- We will conduct an assessment of your skills based on your learning goals. **This assessment is not a “test,” but helps us choose books/materials for learning objectives.
- During the enrollment meeting:
- After the enrollment meeting, you will go on a waiting list to be matched with a tutor based on meeting time preferences and learning needs.
- Waiting list times vary (usually between 1-4 weeks)
- Once the program director has found a tutor for you, an initial tutoring meeting will be scheduled. Attendees at this meeting will be the student, the tutor, and the program manager or coordinator.
- Plans will be made for meetings every week (times/days vary based on needs of both student and tutor). Tutor and student will exchange contact information in case of cancellations/delays.
- Tutoring sessions will commence!
- We prefer our students make at least a 6 month commitment to best meet learning goals.
**Your information will not be shared with anyone. The assessment, information we collect, and tutoring sessions are strictly confidential. The information we collect is used in choosing materials and resources that will best help you meet your learning goals.
