Opera on the James will present “Little Red Riding Hood” at Timbrook Library on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m.

The children’s classic, adapted by Seymour Barab, features a reimagining of the Big Bad Wolf as a lovable character who hates sweets, as well as the ever familiar Little Red, who just wishes she had listened to her mother.

Opera on the James is proud to provide youth and families with an opportunity to experience the visceral thrill of the live performing arts, up close and personal. This performance features a trio of young professional artists who love to share their joy of music and theatre through opera. No tickets are necessary for this casual and fun event. Join us for this free program!

Appropriate for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Opera on the James’ nationally recognized Tyler Young Artist Program is made up of singers chosen from hundreds of applicants for their high level of vocal, musical and theatrical skills. They are ambassadors for opera as an art form for everyone.

About the Composer: As a composer Seymour Barab (1921-2014) was fast and prolific, especially known for his comic and children’s operas. His version of Little Red Riding Hood has for some years been the most frequently performed opera in America. He also wrote art songs and chamber music works with his signature wit and complex rhythms.
