Ongoing Activities – Kids
Help your child prepare for kindergarten through fun, engaging, and everyday activities!
This program is sponsored in part by the Library of Virginia (LVA). "[It] is derived from the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten effort, which focuses solely on reading. However, 1,000 Things expands the concept to include STEAM topics (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) and social and emotional behaviors, such as singing songs and nursery rhymes, playing peekaboo, dancing to music, playing with blocks, and counting aloud. Books and activities may be repeated as many times as the child is interested, since repetition is a valuable learning tool," according to the LVA website.
Every time your child completes 100 things in the challenge, they will earn a book, certificate, and brag tag! Sign up with your Beanstack account, or visit your CCPLS library to participate offline.
Can my child be in multiple Beanstack challenges?
Yes! The more, the merrier. Furthermore, if your child is participating in multiple challenges, any logged reading will automatically apply across all challenges!
Can someone help me troubleshoot Beanstack?
Sure thing! Reach out to the Events & Experiences Team at 434-313-3104 or campbellevents@co.campbell.va.us. You are also welcome to visit any CCPLS library for Beanstack help.
Can my child participate if I do not live in Campbell County?
This CCPLS program is exclusively for children who have a guardian that resides in Campbell County. Several of the surrounding library systems have a similar program for their residents. Find other participating localities here.
Is it possible to participate without internet access?
Yes! If you would like to participate offline, just ask at the front desk of any CCPLS location. You are also always welcome to use our libraries' free computers and wifi.
Explore the downtowns of Altavista, Brookneal, and Rustburg!
We have partnered with local businesses and organizations to create Book Hunts, a fun way to get to know your community! Explore the downtowns of Altavista, Brookneal, and Rustburg. Pick up a checklist from our libraries' Outdoor Cabinets to get started.
Enjoy reading in nature with StoryWalks® in your community!
CCPLS has one StoryWalk® around the Timbrook Library and another on Village Walking Trail off Carden Lane in Rustburg. Bring your little ones, and read a picture book as you enjoy the outdoors. Please remember to:
- Travel to all the podiums
- Read the pages as you go
- Stay safe and have fun!
- Get a virtual badge through our Beanstack program
The books will stay out for a season, so come back often to see if there is something new!
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
