Roots Club: Genealogy and Research Learning
The Roots Club meets from 10:30 am to noon on the second Monday of the month in different locations. Please check the description for each program for the specific library.
The first hour will be a presentation by a topical expert and the final half hour can be used for networking and informal collaboration among members. For more information, call 434-332-9657.
May 14: Roundtable Discussion, Campbell County Public Library, Rustburg – Bring your tips, tricks, and a list of things you learned the hard way. This is your chance to share your own personal knowledge about genealogical research and learn from one another. Interim Library Director Jordan Welborn will facilitate the discussion and share words of advice as well.
June 11: Civil War Nomenclature, Staunton River Memorial Library, Altavista – Mike Hudson from Avoca will explain topics including military organization, ranks, resource materials availalbe at CCPLS and Avoca Museum, medical terminology, uniforms, and how to use the Library of Congress database along with fold3.com.
July 9: Personal Digital Archiving, Patrick Henry Memorial Library, Brookneal – Learn how to digitize photos, slides, and home videos. We will also touch on best practices for digital file organization and storage. Library Director Jordan Welborn will guide us through the process.
